User comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comment forms, as well as the user’s IP address and browser identifier string to help us detect spam.

An anonymous string (called a hash) generated from your email address may be provided to the Gravatar service to check whether you are using it. Gravatar’s privacy policy can be found here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture will be publicly visible alongside your comment.

Multimedia

When uploading photos to a website, you should avoid uploading photos with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from the images published on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our website you may choose to save your name, email address and website address in cookies. This makes it easier to fill out subsequent comments. These cookies are valid for one year.

When you try to log in to our website, we will set a temporary cookie to check whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is deleted when the browser is closed.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and viewing preferences. Login cookies last for two days and display preference cookies last for one year. If you enable the “Remember me logged in” option, login cookies will be saved for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be deleted.

When you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie is stored in your browser. This cookie contains no personal information and simply indicates the ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this website may contain embedded content (e.g. videos, photos, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves as if the visitor were browsing another website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with embedded content, including tracking your interaction with embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Share your data

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

The retention period of your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata will be saved indefinitely. This allows us to recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically instead of putting them in a moderation queue.

For users (if any) who register on our website, we also store the personal data provided in the user profile. All users can view, edit or delete their personal information at any time (but they cannot change their username). Site administrators can also view and edit this information.

Your rights regarding data

If you have an account or have left comments on this site, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any information you have provided to us. You can also request that we delete any personal data we hold about you. This does not include data that we must retain for administrative, legal or security reasons.

Where your data is transferred

User comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
